This week has been a busy one! Today we took our science end of unit assessment and a quiz over main idea and context clues. In Math we started our end of unit assessment yesterday and finished it up today. I will do my best to grade these assignments and enter them into the grade book as soon as possible.
VIP papers went home yesterday. Please sign and return all papers as soon as possible. In Math there was one assignment that did not get filed, so that will be in the next set of VIPs. (Filing is a classroom job in my homeroom.) There are several students who are missing grades because they have not turned in the work. Please speak to your students about having responsibility for their work.
MATH:
We have created a "Review Journal" this week and students will have journal checks with them. These journals will make a GREAT resource to use in preparing and studying for tests. This journal should come home EVERYDAY so your student can study, so please be on the look out for them. :)
As a kind reminder third grade does not give study guides, but there are some great ways you can have your student gain great study habits! The students have loved using PowerPoint in class and you could incorporate this piece of technology at home while using it as a study aid! If you would like you could have your students turn anything they are learning in class into a PowerPoint. The students are reviewing the content as they are creating the slides and then can use the slides later to study from. It will also give them practice using PowerPoint, which is a great skill to know.
Next week we will be starting many new topics. Math we will start on Unit 2 and our Economics Unit in Social Studies. If you have any questions about what is going to be covered you can visit the Georgia DOE website. We will finish up the Georgia Regions PowerPoints this week and they will soon be on view on the science part of our classroom website. The students have worked tirelessly on them and they are looking amazing!
IXL:
During conferences this week I found out some information about IXL I did not know. I want to make it clear that students should only be practicing for 10 minutes or 100%, whichever they earn first. It goes against my homework philosophy to have students working on there longer than that. If you would like your student to have extra practice it is a great site to use.
THANK YOU SO MUCH to the parents who have bought books from my Scholastic Wishlist!!! It is great to have more variety of books at the students' read levels! The students and I are tremendously appreciative!
I hope you all have a great weekend! As always please email me with any questions or concerns! :)
